The James Bennett Scholarship honors the life and legacy of James Bennett, a respected leader, public servant, and advocate for Northeast Florida whose work helped shape the region’s transportation infrastructure and economic future.

As Chief Operating Officer of the Jacksonville Port Authority, James was known for his steady leadership, collaborative approach, and deep commitment to serving both industry and community. His career spanned more than two decades across the Florida Department of Transportation, the private sector and local government, where he consistently advanced projects that strengthened trade, mobility, and long-term regional prosperity.

A lifelong Baker County resident and former Baker County Commissioner, James believed deeply in public service, mentorship, and investing in the next generation. Established in partnership with JAXPORT and the University of North Florida, this scholarship supports students who share James’s values of integrity, leadership, and service.

Through this fund, James Bennett’s impact will continue by empowering future young professionals to build a stronger, more connected future for our region.
